Hi, Iā€™m Jeris.

If youā€™ve ever watched an episode of The Wonder Years, you have a pretty good idea about the early years of my life. The memories of my childhood have faded like a Polaroid instant photograph, but I sometimes get reminders. Like when a friend sent a picture, circa 1970, of me tooling along in my neighborhood on a Stingray bike, my long hair flowing behind me.

Growing up in Michigan suburbia, I had at least four friends my age whose houses I could skip to in less than three minutes. Hopscotch, basketball, and softball games in whoeverā€™s backyard was big enough. Winters with snowmen and ice forts. Sunday church, Sunday dinner, Sunday friends. Band camp. Summers attending Vacation Bible School with Kool-Aid and crafts. This is how I survived the sixties in a family of seven. Oh, donā€™t forget the piano lessons.

My family moved to Tennessee in 1975, returning us to our rootsā€“-a Southern farm where I helped with hay bales and soon after, met my husband Kenny in 1978. Three children and about a hundred Ninja Turtles and Barbies later, we followed our kids in whatever sport would get them out of the house and into the fresh air. Softball, baseball, basketball, pee wee football, high school football, soccer. We enjoyed it all. Now twenty years later, we are hollering for our grands and cheering for every little basket, goal, save, hit, overhand shot, and homerun they make. And more than that, weā€™re cheering (and praying) for their lives.

Along the way there have been plenty of times Iā€™ve dropped the ball, yet here I am. All of this and phew. How did I find the time to write?

Simple. Like my adventurous childhood, the land of story is fun. Every time I create characters, they take me on amazing journeys into places I can only dream about. Scenes unfold, conversations float onto the page, and unexpected visitors arrive. Itā€™s just a blast. And I hope youā€™ll have fun, too, as you enter into realms that surprise and delight, create wonder and carry disappointment, dish out love but also loss, bring bittersweet moments but also happy endings. As for me, Iā€™m waiting for that ultimate Happy Ending, when heaven comes to earth. Until then, we can all read and dream.
